Pegau Castle

Following the secularization of the Pegau monastery, parts of the existing buildings were repurposed for secular use. After the Thirty Years' War, the Electoral Saxon administrative office was moved here from its original location at the church square. In 1662, when the Pegau office was sold to Duke Moritz of Saxe-Zeitz, a part of the building served as a summer residence for him and later his son Moritz Wilhelm. This function ceased with the extinction of the Zeitz secundogeniture in 1718.
