Peigarten Castle

The origins of the complex, once known as "Veste Peygarten," date back to the colonization period of the 11th century. The "Peygartner" were first documented shortly after Christmas in the year 1200. In 1375, the castle was owned by the knightly family of Taxner. Later owners included Heinrich von Neuhaus and Bernhard von Inpruck. A phase began in 1644 when Abbot Cornelius of Lilienfeld acquired the castle and had it expanded into a palace with economic operations such as a dairy, sheep farm, tavern, brewery, and brandy distillery. In 1809, Count Grünne bought the estate and united it with the dominion of Dobersberg. Thereafter, ownership changed frequently until Martin and Ula Wolfer acquired the castle in 1978 and initiated renovations.
