Pejačević Castle

The construction of Pejačević Castle took place between 1800 and 1804 under the patronage of Antun III Count Pejačević of Virovitica and his son Antun IV. It was built on the foundations of an older medieval castle. The plans for the late Baroque building originated from the Viennese architect N. Roth. The Pejačević family, who had already received the Virovitica dominion from Empress Maria Theresia in 1753, used the castle as their main seat until it passed out of their possession in 1841. In 1930, the municipality of Virovitica acquired the castle, and after renovations, it was opened in 1953 as a city museum, which has since presented archaeological, ethnographic, cultural-historical, and other collections.

Pejačević Castle is located in Virovitica, a city in the Virovitica-Podravina County in Continental Croatia. It stands at an elevation of approx. 137 m above sea level.

Today, Pejačević Castle serves as a museum and is open to the public. It houses various exhibitions that offer insights into the archaeology, ethnography, as well as the culture and history of the region.
