Peppenhoven Castle

The origins of Peppenhoven Castle date back to the time of the Frankish kings, when it was a royal estate of King Pippin and later transferred to Prüm Abbey. In the 14th century, Count Wilhelm von Neuenahr was the feudal lord of the estate. Later, in 1569, the fief passed to Johann Kessel von Nürburg, before coming into the possession of the von Schall von Bell zu Schwadorf family through marriage. The current main house was rebuilt in 1697 by the Counts of Werl. In the 18th century, the feudal lords changed several times, including Peter Ludwig Freiherr von Albada (1717) and Freiherr von Martial (1744). In the early 19th century, around 1811, the von Vorst zu Lombeck family were the owners, followed by the ancestors of the current owner, Freiherr Maximilian von Böselager, from 1826. The complex has been a protected monument since 1984.
