In Perwang am Grabensee is Perwang Castle, a building closely linked with the Archdiocese of Salzburg and later with Michaelbeuern Abbey.

History+

The first documented mention of Perwang occurred between 963 and 976 in an exchange deed between Archbishop Friedrich I of Salzburg and Count Aribo, whereby the place fell to Salzburg. For over four centuries, Perwang served as a manor farm of the Prince-Archbishopric of Salzburg. In the 14th century, specifically 1341 and 1391, a residence is mentioned as the property of Fridreich dem Noppinger, and later also the brothers Seybot, Chunrad, Georg, and Christian von Nopping. The Noppinger family was responsible for the construction of a castle chapel, which also served as their burial place, as well as a church in Perwang. On May 11, 1558, the property passed from the Noppingers to Hanns Unterhofer, who died in 1595.
