In Upper Austria, in the Pesenbach district of the municipality of Feldkirchen an der Donau, stands Pesenbach Castle. Originally built as a noble manor, it is now a single-story building surrounded by former farm buildings, forming an inner courtyard.

History+

The first documented mention of the name Bosenbac dates back to 1108. In 1679, the old Bavarian noble family Starzhausen, who also owned Mühllacken Castle from 1678 to 1701, had the Pesenbach manor built. An appraisal from 1764 describes the estate as an “adeligen Freysitz und Mayrhof Pesenbach.” Between 1705 and 1747, Pesenbach, along with Mühllacken Castle and Mühldorf Castle, belonged to the Linz patrician family Peisser von und zu Werttenau. Through judicial sequestration, the complex passed to Wilhering Abbey in 1747, where it remained until 1857. In the 19th century, the manor was owned by the Starhemberg family, who also owned Bergheim Castle.
