Petershagen Castle
Petershagen Castle is a complex built around 1306 as a moated castle, which was converted into a palace in the Weser Renaissance style in the 16th century. It comprises several buildings that have grown together to form the current castle complex.
The castle was built north of the city of Minden at the confluence of the Ösper and the Weser in Petershagen in the district of Minden-Lübbecke.
The former castle was built in 1306 by the then Bishop of Minden, Gottfried von Waldeck, and placed under the protection of Saint Gorgonius.
At the instigation of Bishop Franz II, Count von Waldeck, master builder Jörg Unkair converted the castle into a magnificent Weser Renaissance palace. Dark Porta sandstone as well as light Obernkirchen sandstone were used in particular.
Current Use+
Petershagen Castle is currently used as a hotel. In addition, the Minden-Lübbecke district, in cooperation with the association "Manor Houses and their Parks in Mühlenkreis", organizes chamber concerts in the castle.
The hotel is also used as a starting point for visiting numerous mills of the Westphalian Mill Route located in the immediate vicinity and for cycling tours on the Weser Cycle Path.
