Pirkensee Castle

The name Perchinseo (Pirkensee) first appears in a list of the oldest villages from the year 1062. However, the oldest known depiction of Pirkensee dates only from around 1600. It shows a castle with a two-story building, a gabled roof, a slender tower, and a wall with a gate passage. The castle was owned by the Lords of Pirkensee. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was destroyed in 1632. From 1731-1734, the castle was built by the Lords of Francken as a baroque three-wing complex with onion domes and a park. At the end of the 18th century, ownership passed to the Counts of der Mühle-Eckart. After the Second World War, refugees were housed in Pirkensee Castle, after which it was sold privately. In 1990, a Frankfurt building contractor bought the castle to convert it into a conference hotel. However, during the construction phase, the money ran out. On October 7, 1999, a fire destroyed large parts of this cultural heritage. The exterior facade was restored.
