Plessow Castle

The origins of the current Plessow Castle date back to the early 17th century. As early as 1624, a gatehouse was erected, which likely corresponds to today's side wing. After the collapse of a residential building in 1628, construction of a new dwelling began in 1629, completed by 1632, already reaching two-thirds the size of the current manor house. This building was presumably constructed on the over one-meter-thick fieldstone foundations of an older predecessor from the mid-16th century. In 1787, Friedrich Ludwig V. von Rochow inherited the property, which he found in ruins. He had a dilapidated half-timbered house demolished and began constructing the present castle-like manor house, which was larger than its predecessors and included two large rooms on the ground floor and a grand hall. Between 1850 and 1870, renovations followed, during which the roof was redesigned, dormers were added, the hall was vaulted, and numerous fireplaces and parquet floors were installed.
