Podelwitz Castle, a moated castle, is situated in Podelwitz, a district of Colditz in Saxony. It is an example of an aristocratic seat in the Leipzig region and now offers accommodation.

History+

The first documented mention of Podelwitz Castle dates back to 1487, when it was owned by the von Schellenberg family. In 1596, the era of the Schellenbergs ended, and Hermann von Heynitz was named as co-owner and tenant. The following centuries brought frequent changes of ownership. A redesign took place from 1691 under Ulrich Maximilian Rechenberg, who relocated the main entrance and had the interiors redesigned, commissioning Italian stucco masters. However, these costly renovations led to his ruin, and he sold the castle in 1693 to Moritz von Ankelmann. From 1723 to 1781, it belonged to the von Kötteritz family before passing to Johann Gottfried Lorenz.
