Pöring Castle
Pöring Castle is a castle in the north of today's Pitzling, a district of Landsberg am Lech. It contains Gothic architectural elements, but was restored in the 19th century in a Neo-Gothic style.
The castle originated in the 9th or 10th century in the village of Pöring (1140 Peringin) and was the property of the Wessobrunn monastery and also a fief. Since the 14th century, it was owned by the Peringen family.
From 1546 to 1694, the Holdingen family inhabited the castle. They owned the "Mother of God on the Little Ship", a 15th-century statue of Mary, which from 1731 onwards prompted Marian pilgrimages in Pöring.
Between 1764 and 1766, the Pöring Castle Church of Mary of Reconciliation was built. The stucco work was done by Dominikus Zimmermann.
In 1844, Karl Freiherr von Leoprechting acquired the castle and lived there until 1857.
It remains in private ownership to this day.
