Poitschach Castle

Poitschach Castle in the municipality of Feldkirchen was for a long time the seat of hammer lords. The baroque castle was built in 1715 by Johann Lorenz von Jovio. In 1759, Baron von Rechbach had the complex expanded and modernized. He was followed by a Count Spindler, who sold the property around 1800 to Countess Gilleis-Gavasini. After the bankruptcy of her family, there was a frequent change of ownership. Since 1938, the castle has belonged to the Senitza family and serves, in addition to residential purposes, as the administrative seat of a forestry and agricultural estate.

Poitschach Castle is a two-story building on a rectangular floor plan. A tower is attached to the south side. The windows have straight cornices. The round-arched west portal is dated 1715. The spandrels of the architectural framing are decorated with acanthus motifs. Above the gate cornice are painted the baroque coats of arms of the Leitner and Jovio families. The bay window of the east facade is richly ornamented with volute consoles, stucco fields, and leaded glass from the end of the 19th century. Inside the castle is a relief fragment from a Roman-era tomb depicting a mourning genius. Several rooms were furnished around 1800 with stucco ceilings in geometric shapes.

The two-story Biedermeier building opposite the castle is dated 1833 on the gate of the portal.
