Poppenreuth Castle, a historic structure in Poppenreuth in the Upper Palatinate region, was originally founded as a manor house and shaped the region.

History+

The foundation of Poppenreuth Castle dates back to Hans (V.) Notthafft von Weißenstein. In 1541, he and his brother Friedrich III. divided an inheritance that brought them the seat of Thumsenreuth and shares in Weißenstein Castle. In 1547, Hans (V.) Notthafft acquired Lorenz Würstl's farm in Poppenreuth and transformed it into a manor house. A fire on October 13, 1766, destroyed Poppenreuth Castle along with its outbuildings.
