Porrentruy Castle, a historic structure that once served as a residence for princely bishops, stands above the city of Porrentruy in the Swiss canton of Jura.
History+
The castle's origins date back to the 13th century when the first fortress was built. The oldest preserved part, the Tour Réfous, a round keep built in 1271, stems from this period. Between 1527 and 1792, the castle served as a residence for the Prince-Bishops of Basel. The 16th century was formative. During this time, sections such as the Résidence, the Chancellerie, and the Tour du Coq were added, shaping its current appearance.

Today, the edifice houses the municipal administration of Porrentruy, thus remaining a center of urban life.
