Prantshausen Castle

Prantshausen Castle is a former castle in Bad Aibling, which is now run as the "Romantikhotel Lindner".

The history of the castle begins in the early Middle Ages - the foundations date back to the Merovingian period, around 600 AD. In 800, the free Sedlhof Prantshausen was first mentioned in a document. It is suspected that the property and the associated lands belonged to a "family of Prant". The building is considered the birthplace of the blessed Rathold von Aibling (approx. 900-954), who is also depicted in a mural on the north facade.

The more than one meter thick walls of the castle repelled attackers and survived almost undamaged two major fires that raged in Bad Aibling in 1495 and 1765. Instead of the four towers that fell victim to the last fire, the Baroque facade was built, which has since shaped the image of Marienplatz in the center of Aibling.

In 1709, the castle changed hands for the first time. The then mayor of Bad Aibling had an inn and hostel built in it, which flourished thanks to the salt road.

On May 1, 1853, Johann Lindner acquired the castle for 200 guilders. Since then, the property has been owned by the family. Today it bears the name "Romantikhotel Lindner".
