Prötzel Castle

The two-story Baroque building was constructed between 1712 and 1717 based on designs by Andreas Schlüter, commissioned by Paul Anton von Kameke. In 1770, an English landscape park was added to the estate. Around 1800, the castle became the property of the Barons von Eckardstein. Friedrich August Stüler carried out renovations to the castle and garden in 1859. A final major redesign took place in 1924 in the style of the time. From August 1943 to early 1945, Prötzel Castle served as the residence of Nuncio Cesare Orsenigo. After the expropriation of the von Eckardstein family in 1945, the building fell into disrepair.
