Early History
The Rittergut Riesa-Promnitz is located on the right bank of the Elbe and was considered a control point for trade traffic across the river. Among the owners, the following families are mentioned: Fam. Wehlen, Fam. Wolffersdorff, Fam. Odeleben, Fam. Kiesenwetter, and Fam. v. Miltitz. The conversion to a baroque three-wing complex probably took place in 1728. Due to its proximity to the Elbe, the castle was severely damaged during the 2002 flood. Currently, the building is scaffolded and being restored.
