Proschwitz Castle

The first documented mention of a knight from Proschwitz dates back to 1102, with the place name indicating an early Sorbian settlement. Until the Reformation, Proschwitz served as a table estate for the Bishops of Meißen. In 1554, the property passed into the possession of Ernst von Miltitz. After its destruction in the Thirty Years' War, Peter Werdemann acquired the estate in 1657. Construction of the baroque castle began under the von Schilling family, who acquired it in 1704. Magdalena von Beichlingen, née von Miltitz, bought it in 1732 and had a simple L-shaped building erected. After several changes of ownership, including the von Berlepsch and von Carlowitz families, the castle was extended with a residential wing between 1882 and 1888. From 1914, extensive restoration took place.
