Pudagla Castle

Pudagla Castle is a former castle of the Dukes of Pomerania. It is located in Pudagla on the island of Usedom.
Duke Ernst Ludwig of Pomerania had the former abbey of the secularized Pudagla Monastery converted in 1574 for his mother, Duchess Maria of Saxony (1515–1583), as a widow's residence. The ducal office of Pudagla was administered from the castle. The last ducal bailiff was Christoph von Neuenkirchen.
After the extinction of the Griffin Dukes, Pomerania was divided between Sweden and Brandenburg in the Peace of Westphalia. The Pudagla office became a royal Swedish chamber estate. Pudagla belonged, even after her abdication, to the table estates of Queen Christina. Until 1668, the bailiff Peter Appelmann, who at times held the title of "Governor of the Queen's Domains", resided at Pudagla Castle.
With the official transfer of the island of Usedom to Prussia, Pudagla became property of the Prussian crown. From 1731 until its conversion into a rent office in 1824, Pudagla was the seat of the general tenant and bailiff.
Since GDR times, the house has served as a restaurant.
Building+
The castle is a two-story, largely unadorned plastered building with a floor area of 48.7 meters in length and 11.5 meters in width. The building has twelve axes and a round bay window on the southwest corner. There are dormer windows in the half-hipped roof. The segmental arched main portal on the south side is framed by pilasters. Above the portal is a tall rectangular field with the Great Nine-Field Coat of Arms of Pomerania and an inscription tablet. On the rear side is a risalit-like projection with a vaulted spiral staircase. The main corridor, formerly used as an entrance, has a barrel vault, and the two-part cellar has cross vaults.
