Pülswerda Castle

In Pülswerda, an outpost was mentioned in 1267, which was destroyed in 1300/1350. In 1368, Pülswerda was first mentioned as "Pulczwerd". In 1570, Friedrich von Seydewitz acquired Pülswerda and had a castle built. In 1767, the castle was rebuilt by Curt Gottlob Graf von Seydewitz. In 1799, the Imperial Count von Seydewitz married Countess Kunigunde Charlotte (divorced Countess von Pückler-Muskau). In 1840, the current castle was built on the walls of the previous building. In 1879, ownership changed to Otto Heinrich Ulrich von Platen. From 1884 until their expropriation and expulsion by the communists in 1945, the castle and estate were owned by the Bake family. Thereafter, the castle served as a refugee shelter and kindergarten. In 2005, the castle passed into private ownership and, after a fundamental renovation, is used as a residential building.
