In the eastern part of Regensburg, Pürkelgut Castle, a moated castle, is considered one of the city's Baroque secular buildings. Its history is intertwined with personalities and events.

History+

The castle was constructed in 1728 under the direction of Johann Michael Prunner for the merchant family Pürkel. Later, the estate was acquired by the Princes of Thurn und Taxis, who utilized it as a hunting lodge. An episode occurred in 1800 during the siege of Regensburg, when Napoléon Bonaparte briefly stayed here to recover from an injury.
