Quetz Castle

The origins of the Quetz manor date back to 1779, when it came into the possession of the von Graevenitz family through the marriage of Luise Ernestine von Möllendorf to Helmut Moritz von Graevenitz. The foundation stone for the current Quetz Castle was laid on April 14, 1788, and construction was completed between 1788 and 1790 under Hellmut Moritz Erdmann von Graevenitz in the early Neoclassical style. A commemorative plaque on the west side of the castle recalls the laying of the foundation stone with a quote from Hellmut Moritz Erdmann von Grävenitz. The eleven-axis building shows architectural parallels to Mosigkau Castle and the Palais Dietrich in Dessau. The design of the rear facade with a three-axis, gable-crowned central risalit, whose outer windows are narrower, suggests C.F. Damm as the construction manager. The interior architecture was designed by Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff, known for his work on the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm.
