Quilow Castle

The origins of Quilow date back to the late 15th century, when it was owned by Stolpe Monastery before being acquired by the noble family von Owstin. In 1485, Quilow is mentioned in a feudal letter from Duke Bogislaw X. The current moated castle was built in the second half of the 16th century for Roleff von Owstin. The von Owstin family owned the estate until 1803. After the male line died out in 1855, the estate passed to Sophia Carolina Friederike von Ploetz in 1858 and served as a widow's residence after a renovation. Between 1885 and 1920, the building stood empty before the last owner, Claus von Ploetz, undertook a renovation from 1920 onwards. In 1945, he was dispossessed.
