Raggnitz Castle is a historic estate in the upper Drau Valley. This castle is an example of the development of noble residences in the region.

History+

The first documented mention of Raggnitz dates back to 1254, when the Archbishop of Salzburg, Philipp von Spanheim, granted lands in Racknitz to his archer Heinrich. These territories had previously been ceded by Count Albert III of Tyrol to Duke Bernhard of Carinthia and his son. In 1304, Raggnitz was assigned to the County of Görz. Later, in 1429, Siegmund von Lind received dominion over Lind, which included Raggnitz. After the nearby castles of Ober- and Unterlind fell into disrepair, the Lords of Lind chose the estate of Raggnitz as their new seat and had it expanded into a castle.
