Rahe Castle

The origins of Schloss Rahe date back to the 13th century, when it was mentioned as a moated castle. In the 14th century, the families von Roide and van der Linden were among the first known owners. Through sales and inheritances, the estate changed hands multiple times. In the early 17th century, the von Keverberg family, known as Meven, owned the property, which was even temporarily known as Mevenraede. In 1784, Gerhard Heusch acquired the estate and had the old moated castle converted into a moated palace, which was inaugurated in 1787. In 1818, the castle served as quarters for Russian Tsar Alexander I and Austrian Emperor Franz I during the Congress of Aachen.
