On the island of Rügen, Ralswiek Castle is a manor house in Neo-Renaissance architecture, situated on a hill above the Great Jasmund Lagoon. Its architecture is reminiscent of French models.

History+

The site of the current castle was once home to an older, single-story manor house, which was demolished in the 19th century and replaced by a two-story building with a Renaissance gable. In 1891, the estate was acquired by the manufacturer Hugo Sholto Graf Douglas. He commissioned the Berlin architect Gustav Stroh, who had the current Neo-Renaissance castle built between 1894 and 1896. It is a rectangular building, flanked by two towers with conical roofs, with a third tower in front of the entrance surpassing the outer ones. In 1913, a stable was added according to plans by Franz Juhre.
