Rammenau Castle

The Rammenau manor was first documented in 1597, having various owning families such as the von Ponickau and von Seydewitz. In 1717, Ernst Ferdinand von Knoch acquired the estate and had a new Baroque palace with a garden built between 1721 and 1731. After his bankruptcy, the palace passed to Franz Josef von Hoffmann in 1744. During the Seven Years' War, it briefly served as Frederick the Great's headquarters in 1758. Later, in 1794, Johann Centurius Graf von Hoffmannsegg sold the estate, which he repurchased in 1820 as his retirement home.
