Rapperzell Castle

The buildings of Rapperzell Castle are still preserved in their original state. Duke Max in Bavaria, the father of the later Empress Sisi, was a hunting tenant here. Sisi, the cousin of the "Fairytale King" Ludwig, also presumably visited Rapperzell occasionally in her youth, before marrying Emperor Franz-Josef. Later, Duke Max sold the castle – to the Barons von Beck-Peccoz. The ring-shaped pond with the island behind the castle is probably the remnant of a moat from a much earlier castle that stood here.
