Rathsfeld Castle (Rathsfeld)

Rathsfeld Hunting Lodge was built between 1697 and 1698 on behalf of Anton Count of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, although a predecessor building already existed on this site. The three-winged structure included a Corps de Logis, 168 windows, and 80 doors. During the GDR era, the castle served as a company holiday home for VEB Robotron Optima Büromaschinenwerk Erfurt and as a pioneer holiday camp. After reunification, it was sold in 1998 by the Treuhandanstalt to a private owner, who allowed the building to fall into disrepair. An arson attack in 2006 led to the castle's destruction, which has since remained a ruin.
