Rauchenbichlerhof Castle is an estate in the Austrian city of Salzburg. Originally mentioned as a manor farm, it evolved into a Baroque palace that was inhabited by various families and remains in private ownership today.

History+

The first documented mention of the estate occurred in 1120 under the name “Gut Waldbichl”. From 1238, it belonged to St. Peter's Abbey, which leased the estate by hereditary right. Between 1597 and 1677, the Salzburg merchant family Fabrizin owned the property. From 1677 to 1741, the Kaserer brewing family owned the estate. In 1741, Salzburg city councilor Franz Anton Rauchenbichler acquired the property and had it rebuilt. It later belonged to his son, the freedom fighter Anton Rauchenbichler. In 1822, Tsar Alexander I visited the castle during his journey to the Congress of Verona.
