In Rauhenzell, a district in the Oberallgäu region of Bavaria, Germany, stands Rauhenzell Castle, a late Renaissance structure at an elevation of approximately 723 meters above sea level.

History+

Rauhenzell Castle was built in 1555 by the Lords of Laubenberg, who created a three-story rectangular building. After the male line of the Laubenbergs died out in 1647, the lordship of Rauhenzell passed to the House of Pappus-Trazberg, whose members were later elevated to the status of Imperial Barons. In 1878, the castle's facade underwent a Baroque-style redesign, though its original late Renaissance character was preserved.
