Rechberg Castle

The castle was donated to the Order of St. George Knights as a commandery in 1495. After the dissolution of the order in 1598, the castle, like all other order possessions, was handed over to the Jesuits. They owned the castle until their own temporary dissolution in 1773. The building is a three-story, cubic structure covered by a hip roof, with a tower-like projection in the northwest. Loopholes can be seen just below the roof. The core of the castle dates from the end of the 15th century, but changes were made in the 16th and 17th centuries (and in the interior also in the 19th century). On the west wall there is a fresco of Saint George (formerly dated 1581). On the mountain side, the building is fronted by an enclosed forecourt, adjacent to which is the churchyard.
