Redwitz Castle is located on the northeastern edge of the Upper Franconian village of Redwitz an der Rodach. It shows the evolution from a medieval castle to a residence.

History+

The origins of the estate date back to the mid-13th century, when a castle was built on this site by a branch of the Marshals of Kunstadt. The first lord of the castle is mentioned as either Iring von Kunstadt or Erchinpert von Kunstadt. By the end of the 13th century, the north wing was constructed as the first part of the current castle, which gradually replaced the old fortress. During the Peasants' War in 1525, the castle suffered damage when one of its Kemenaten (stone houses) burned down and the other was damaged. Berthold von Redwitz initiated the reconstruction in the same year.
