Reelkirchen Castle

The moated complex on the road to Blomberg was founded in the middle of the 16th century by Hermann VIII von Mengersen. He had owned the village and the dairy as a fief of the Paderborn bishops since 1523.

The elongated building of the outer bailey dates back to 1600 in its core and was rebuilt around 1774. It was built on the field side from quarry stone, and embrasure-like openings were incorporated. On the courtyard side, it was built in half-timbered style, reusing a barn beam with the inscription 1550. On the side of the central, round-arched stone passage is a coat of arms of Hermann XIII von Mengersen and Agnes Freytag. The stone moat bridge was built in 1798. The gardener's house, a small half-timbered building, probably dates from the 18th century.

The current manor house was built in 1755 as a half-timbered house with a mansard roof and a solid basement floor and subsequently plastered. The central entrance, like the symmetrically arranged windows, is framed with a segmental arch. The three-flight staircase in the hall is decorated at the newel post with volutes as well as flower and tendril carvings. In the so-called tapestry room, grisaille wallpapers from France with three Venetian scenes were installed in 1810.

The entire complex was extensively renovated in 1935 and from 1967 to 1975.
