Reichenau Castle is situated in Reichenau an der Rax in Lower Austria. It now serves as a cultural hub for the region.

History+

The first documented mention of Reichenau Castle dates back to 1256, when it came into the possession of noble servants of the Lords of Pitten-Klamm. In 1311, ownership transferred to the Fallbach brothers. Duke Otto the Merry acquired the dominion of Reichenau and the castle in 1333, subsequently gifting it to Neuberg Abbey. Cistercian monks resided in the castle for over 450 years, with several abbots from Neuberg Abbey spending extended periods there due to the climate. In 1784, the dominion of Reichenau became the property of the Innerberger Hauptgewerkschaft, which utilized the castle as an administrative seat and residence for high-ranking officials.
