Reichertshausen Castle
Reichertshausen Castle is located in Reichertshausen, Upper Bavaria, in the district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm.
Reichertshausen is first mentioned in 779, when a woman named Toza had a prayer house built. The next lords of Reichertshausen are documented in 1060 as the Babenberg family. Subsequently, the castle owners called themselves von Richershusen.
In 1334, the castle and its possessions were sold to Ludwig Pütrich, a citizen of Munich. In 1347, he received the closed Hofmark rights from Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian. His descendant Jakob Pütrich also owned the Hofmarks of Baar and Reichertshofen.
In two steps, in 1497 and 1502, the property was sold to Hans von Pfeffenhausen. The next owners from 1607 were the Barons von Weichs. Through marriage, the Hofmark finally came into the possession of the von Cetto family in 1840, in whose possession it remains today.
Layout+
The oldest parts of Reichertshausen Castle date from around 1100 and were rebuilt in the late Gothic style in the 16th century by the Lords von Pfeffenhausen. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was destroyed but rebuilt as a moated castle with a wall and a moat.
Reichertshausen Castle is designed as a three-wing complex. An inner courtyard was enclosed by limiting the fourth side with a wall. During a renovation in the late 1970s, Gothic frescoes were uncovered.
Joseph von Weichs had the castle chapel of the 14 Saints with a chapel hall built in 1714.
Immediately next to the extensive English-style castle park is the Reichertshausen Castle Golf Club.
Current Use+
The largest part of the castle is inhabited by the von Cetto family. Other parts are used for concerts and rented out for events.
