Reifnitz Castle

Reifnitz Castle was built in 1898 according to designs by the Hamburg architect Professor Zenkonski. The original builder was Adolf Heinrich Bercht, who later served as mayor of Klagenfurt. The building underwent renovations and extensions, with the rear of the castle now largely consisting of a glass facade. For a period, it served as a gallery for the municipality of Maria Wörth. At the end of 2005, the automotive supplier Magna acquired the castle along with seven hectares of land from the Carinthian Tourism Holding, an institution of the state of Carinthia. The purchase price amounted to 6.4 million Euros. This sale drew criticism from residents and citizen initiatives who considered the price of 92 Euros per square meter to be too low.
