Reinach Castle
Schloss Reinach (Southern Baden) is a hotel and restaurant complex at the foot of the Tuniberg in Munzingen, the southernmost district of Freiburg.
Origins
Schloss Reinach first appears in a document in the 17th century. Built as a manor house, it was constructed next to a moated castle partially destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. Of this moated castle, only the northern round tower remains today.
The occasion for the documented mention of Schloss Reinach was the marriage of the nobles Hans Adam von Pforr and Maria Cleopha von Reinach. She also donated the baptismal font in St. Stephan's Church in Munzingen in 1626, thereby giving a first sign of the family's existence. On the baptismal font, in addition to the year 1626, the coats of arms of the von Pforr and von Reinach families can also be seen. Maria Cleopha was an important personality and, after a second marriage, bequeathed her entire fortune to her nephew Beat Melchior von Reinach.
The von Kageneck Family
Around 1750, the estate passed into the possession of the von Kageneck family. The exact circumstances, however, are unknown. Due to the von Kageneck family's 250-year ownership, many structural features can still be traced today. As a manor house, Schloss Reinach was primarily used for agriculture.
In 1870, a fire almost completely destroyed the manor house, necessitating structural renovations. Until 1969, the entire estate was still fully operational as one of the largest manor houses in the region.
Hotel and Restaurant Complex+
In 1991, the entire estate was restored and opened as a hotel complex, restaurant, and conference center in 1993. However, after a short time, the operating company ran into financial difficulties, and Schloss Reinach was managed by an insolvency administration for almost three years.
In 2007, the hotel became the property of the restaurateur and hotelier couple René and Beatrix Gessler, who modernized and expanded the entire hotel complex. Due to its proximity to the Tuniberg Golf Club, the hotel is frequently requested as a golf hotel, and cultural events in the fields of art, music, and theater also take place there. A gourmet restaurant is housed in the former manor house, with further culinary offerings available in a Baden specialty restaurant and an Italian bistro. The former horse stable of the manor complex now houses the Reinach Hall, which is used year-round for weddings and other banquet and conference events.
