Reinharz Castle is situated in Reinharz, a district of Bad Schmiedeberg in the Wittenberg district, Saxony-Anhalt. It is known for its blend of simple aesthetics and opulent Rococo interior design.

History+

The construction of Reinharz Castle took place between 1690 and 1701 under Heinrich Löser. While the exterior of the castle features a restrained, almost defensive construction, the ground floor was redesigned in 1748 in the style of Dresden Rococo. The central hall on the ground floor has wooden paneling adorned with gilded rocaille ornaments and serves as a frame for tiles from Harlingen and Rotterdam. Wall-mounted paintings by Christian Wilhelm Ernst Dietrich or his workshop from 1734, depicting scenes after Molière, complement the room decoration. The pictorial program is supplemented by a copy of Antoine Pesne's “The Fortune Teller” above the marble fireplace.
