Reinsberg Castle
Reinsberg Castle is located in the municipality of Reinsberg in the district of Mittelsachsen in Saxony.
As early as 1197, this was the seat of a knightly noble family. The castles in Reinsberg and Bieberstein still bear witness to this today. When Reinsberg Castle was built and who its founder was has not been proven with certainty to this day. However, it is considered very likely that the origin of the place and the castle is due to a German nobleman named Reinhardt, who built a castle at this location, under whose protection farmers gradually settled.
The difficult-to-access steep slope above the Bobritzsch is probably the reason why a castle-like fortification was built here. From the unprotected east side, the castle was secured by a moat that could only be crossed by a drawbridge. A mighty tower overlooked the structure.
Ownership+
The Lords of Reinsberg were named as the first owners of the Reinsberg manor. The rule of the Reinsbergers did not last long. Already in the 14th century, they lost larger parts of their ancestral seat. These shares were acquired by the Schönbergers, who also took over the rest in 1411. Thus, the castle passed into the possession of the Schönbergers, who lived at Reinsberg Castle for over 500 years. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. During GDR times, the castle was a holiday home for the Schwarze Pumpe combine. Today the building is private property. The park is open to walkers. The BadePark behind the park has been the outdoor swimming pool for holidaymakers and residents of Reinsberg and the surrounding area since 1978 and is located right next to the Grabentour nature reserve.
