On a steep slope above the Bobritzsch River lies Reinsberg Castle, a complex in Saxony. Its origins date back to the 12th century.

History+

As early as 1197, a knightly family is mentioned at this location, having their ancestral seat here. Although the exact builder and founding date of Reinsberg Castle are unknown, it is presumed that a German nobleman named Reinhardt erected an initial castle, laying the foundation for the later settlement. The location on the difficult-to-access steep slope above the Bobritzsch predestined the site for a fortification. Originally, a moat and a drawbridge secured the unprotected eastern side, while a tower dominated the structure.
