History+

The origins of Reinthal Castle date back to the Middle Ages when it served as an economic farm for Rein Abbey. From the 16th century onwards, its function changed, and it was subsequently managed as a noble residence. The property experienced numerous changes in ownership until it finally came into the possession of the city of Graz in 1967. The enclosed four-wing complex, which surrounds a square inner courtyard, contains its oldest structural components in the basement of the south wing.
