Reisensburg Castle

The settlement of the area where the current castle stands dates back over 4000 years, with evidence from the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. An initial castle complex was already mentioned in the first half of the 6th century. In the 10th century, the castle was owned by Berthold von Reisensburg, a Luitpolding who was involved in the events surrounding the Battle of Lechfeld after his banishment from Bavaria. After a period during which the castle did not appear in written sources, it was mentioned again in the 12th century. In the 16th century, it was converted from a castle into a palace.
