Relling Castle (Ermatingen)
Relling Castle in Ermatingen, Canton Thurgau, is a structure likely among the oldest preserved buildings in the region. It is characterized by its continuous use and adaptations made by its owners.
History+
The original building, estimated to date back to the 12th or 13th century, was destroyed by fire during the Swabian War. It was rebuilt as early as 1501. From 1579, it served as a free seat for Junker Jechonias Rellingen von Feder. The eastern part of the property consists of a square tower on high stone foundations, which was extended with a staircase in 1686. Later, the western part was added as a wine press, where oak posts that survived the 1499 fire can still be found today.
