Emperor Henry IV built his fortress Waiblingen after his return from Canossa (winter 1077). To strategically secure this fortress, Rems Castle was built, which was about 80 x 80 m in size. Count Ulrich II of Württemberg held court at the castle, partly together with his brother, Count Eberhard the Illustrious (1268, 1277 and 1279).
