Rennenberg Castle

Rennenberg Castle is a stately home in Linz am Rhein, a town in the Neuwied district of Rhineland-Palatinate, built in 1846. It is listed as a cultural monument and designated as a residential area.

Rennenberg Castle is located one kilometer north of the town entrance of Linz am Rhein at an elevation of about 145 m above sea level, east and below Landesstraße 256 (Linz–Kretzhaus) and west and above the Rennenberger Bach stream. A side arm of the stream flows through the grounds and is dammed in a pond.

Friedrich IV of Salm-Kyrburg had the castle built in 1846 as a summer residence for the Princes of Salm-Kyrburg, whose line died out in 1905. The castle also included a hunting lodge located northeast of the town (now a listed building). During the first air raids on Linz in World War II, one of five incendiary bombs hit the castle on the night of August 25, 1940, but the resulting fire was extinguished. After a sale in 1992 to a family from Melle (Lower Saxony), the property underwent extensive renovation, and in 1994 it was designated as a monument zone along with its park.
