Retzhof Castle

The origins of Retzhof date back to 1318, when a court in Leutarn was granted as a fief by the Archbishop of Salzburg to Guntherus de Leytarn, though the original location did not correspond to the current castle grounds. In 1432, the Aflenzers took possession, before the Retzer family received the fief in the mid-15th century. In 1569, the estate was sold to the quartermaster Michael Hueber. Only 26 years later, in 1595, Prince-Bishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau sold Retzhof to the Diocese of Seckau. Bishop Martin Brenner later used it as his retirement residence, after which a series of changing administrators managed the property.
