Reuschenberg Castle (Selikum)

The origins of the estate date back to the late 13th century, when a court of the Knights of Selinchein was documented. In the 15th century, it was known as Hoyve zu Selickhem and was later managed as Hof zu Seligheim in the parish of Neuss. Between 1582 and 1587, the property under Wilhelm II von Reuschenberg suffered destruction from raids and fires, from which the family never recovered. Due to high debts, the Lords of Reuschenberg had to leave the estate in 1699. After a forced auction, the trace of the last Reuschenberger is lost. In the 17th century, the house was surrounded by a pond. In the following centuries, the estate changed hands several times, including the Salm, Lambertz, and Zehman families, as well as the Braumann family for 99 years. After the death of Arnold von Braumann in 1814, his sisters sold the estate in 1837 to Baron Carl von Boeselager.
