Rhäzüns Castle is in the municipality of Rhäzüns in the canton of Graubünden. It is strategically located on the lower course of the Posterior Rhine, just before its confluence with the Anterior Rhine, on a moraine plateau. This elevated position has given the site special significance.

History+

The castle's origins date back; as early as the 10th century, imperial documents mention a "castellum Beneduces et Rezunnes." The first known Baron of Rhäzüns appeared around 1137/39. The first confirmed mention of Rhäzüns Castle itself dates to 1282. After the death of the last Rhäzüns in 1459, a dispute over inheritance erupted, which was decided in favor of the Zollern family in 1461. Maximilian I acquired the dominion in 1497 through an exchange.
