The Alte Kellnerei, the only surviving part of Rheinberg Castle, is a structure in Rheinberg, North Rhine-Westphalia. Originally built as an economic building of an electoral castle, it today serves as a location for education and culture.

History+

The Alte Kellnerei was constructed in 1573 as an economic building for Rheinberg Castle, owned by the Electorate of Cologne. Its initial function was diverse, including use as a grain magazine and stable. During the siege of Rheinberg in October 1598, the castle, including large parts of the Kellnerei, was severely damaged by an explosion. Reconstruction and redesign of the building began in 1627. In the 18th century, the Kellnerei passed into private ownership and saw various uses, including as a private girls' school.
