Richmond Palace, a baroque jewel, rises in the south of Braunschweig and is a significant testimony to the courtly architecture of the 18th century. Named after England's Richmond Park, it commemorates the homeland of Princess Augusta, for whom it was once built.

History+

Richmond Palace was constructed between 1768 and 1769 for Princess Augusta, later Duchess and wife of Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand. Carl Christoph Fleischer was the master builder. In 1785, architect Christian Gottlob Langwagen made alterations to the roof to improve light incidence in the central part by adding a lantern with twelve windows.
